Born in Evergreen Park, IL and raised in New Lenox, IL, I received my undergraduate degree from Carleton College in Sociology/Anthropology in 1993, my master’s degree in public interest journalism from The Ohio State University in 2000, and my MFA from The Ohio State University in 2004. After living in Minnesota, Illinois, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Georgia, I moved to Connecticut in 2011, where I live with my sweetie Cliff and my son Ivan.
I’m a writer, teacher, mom, Midwesterner, activist, and Buddhist. I have a loud laugh. If you’re interested, here’s my teaching blog with syllabi and links and so forth. I get mad at the state of health insurance in the United States.
Feelings on Punctuation
I believe strongly in the serial comma. I use many, many exclamation points in email correspondence and texting but try to restrain myself in formal writing. Pro-semi-colon.
